Welcome to my website!
My name is Andrew Wright, and I am a recording engineer.
Here you will find a collection of my work and projects which showcase my skills in sound production, while also highlighting my passion for music and the creative industries.
From recording and mixing, collaborating and writing with new artists, to learning the processes of sound design and creating compositions for tv and film, I am constantly striving to improve and expand my knowledge in the industry.
Thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio; I look forward to connecting with you.
My passion for music and the creative arts has been present from a very young age; I’ve been a member of choirs, attended guitar and singing lessons, drama classes, and performed in multiple school shows and amateur dramatic productions. As I got older, I started gigging in venues across Glasgow and Renfrewshire, first as a singer in a band, then as a solo artist, before forming a duo with long-term collaborator, producer and mix engineer, Andrew Brien.
Being creative is part of what makes me spark as a person. I love collaborating with others to create new music, new art; seeing how the process progresses from the initial idea to the finished product brings me a great sense of joy and fulfilment.
It was while part of my first band, Willow Drive, that I was introduced to the process of recording, opening my eyes to a whole new creative outlet. Our debut EP was self-produced, allowing me to gain experience recording my vocals at home. This experience coincided with an opportunity to attend a local recording studio as part of the “Special Day” initiative set-up by the Willow Foundation. This was my first taste of a studio environment and sparked an interest that led to me recording and releasing my own self-titled EP, in 2013, which was released in aid of the charity.
In 2014, I took my passion for the creative arts and started a two-year journey towards achieving an HND in Acting and Performance at West College Scotland. This was an incredible experience filled with multiple challenges which helped to form the person that I am today, and culminated in an A Grade and winning the class prize at my graduation ceremony. Had it not been for health complications, I would have progressed towards achieving a BA (Hons) in Drama.
Since my late teens, my health has always required extra consideration. Living with an energy-limiting condition means that I have had to learn to manage my time effectively and efficiently, learning how to adapt to the challenges I’m presented with, and finding a way to do things that works for me. The ability to adapt to a variety of situations with a solution-based mindset is a skill that I have been able to apply to my studies and workflow, and has proven to be a real strength.
My experiences also guide me towards projects that allow me to give back to those who have supported me and those around me. This has brought many like-minded creatives into my life that I have had the pleasure of collaborating with, and look forward to continuing to do so in the future.
In 2021, with COVID-19 restricting the ability to perform and a desire to further my education, I started studying part-time towards a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with the Open University, achieving distinction in both completed modules. This was another incredibly valuable experience; the skills I developed over the course of my time at the OU – particularly the resilience required to keep working through a variety of challenges – have helped to prepare me for future employment and educational ventures.
In the summer of 2023, I made the decision to put the degree on hold and return to college to develop my skills as a recording engineer, starting an HNC in Sound Production. I have developed a wide variety of skills within different areas of sound, using my knowledge and experience of working with multiple musical genres, and I look forward to continuing developing my skills through further study, and into employment within the creative industries.
